Tanzania and Somalia today confirmed their first cases of the coronavirus and Somalia has suspended all international flights for 15 days starting from Wednesday
According to Health Minister Ummy Mwal, a 46-year-old woman in Tanzania tested positive.
The woman had left Tanzania for Belgium on March 3 and she also visited Sweden and Denmark between March 3-13 before returning to Belgium and then to Tanzania.
“The #Government confirms a #Coronavirus disease case in the country. The case, which is confirmed today is the first one […] The patient is a Somali citizen who traveled back to the country returning from #China,” the ministry confirmed on Twitter Monday.
While other African countries are reporting more cases, a German company CureVac is on the race to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus.
The COVID-19 outbreak, which started in China, and spreading across the globe with over 156,000 confirmed cases and 5,800 deaths. However, more than 70,000 people have recovered from the virus.
