The Government of Ghana is set to build a 100-bed permanent infectious disease centre in four weeks amid coronavirus pandemic in Ghana. The reason for the project to be completed within the four weeks is in relation to COVID-19, therefore the project is timely.
The project is principally based on the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund and will cost about three and a half million dollars.
The facility is set to be well fitted and equipped to fit the purpose with the assistant and guide of medical personnel. The core part of the building is to protect the staff from getting contaminated with COVID-19.
The Ghana Institute of Architect, Ghana Institute of Engineers and Ghana Institute of Surveyors collaborated professionally in putting up the project in the fight against COVID-19. The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Army assist with guidance in relations to standards.
Workers on the project are rendering their services on a pro bono basis, and the public is called upon to assist with donations.
President Nana Akufo Addo thank all the masterminds behind the project, the professionals and the donors who are contributing massively to the success of the project. He also states that this is one of the best examples of public-private partnership.
Some donors include Black Stars, Kasapreko, GNPC Foundation, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank, Ghana Association of Bankers, Mr Oscar Pearl, Devtraco Plus Limited, International Security Consultant, Crown container services, Consolidated Bank, EGH limited, and many other donors.
The Infectious Disease and Isolation Centre is the first of its kind in Ghana and will also serve for other infectious diseases like meningitis, Ebola and others. It is the first of the four planned to be built in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
