Accra, Ghana- Tuesday, July 7, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Former president, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC has finally settled on Professor Naana Jane Opoku – Agyemang as his running mate for the upcoming general elections in December 2020.

Her appointment makes her the first woman appointed by a major party on a presidential ticket.

The political appointment made by Ex-President John Mahama incites many Ghanaians including Women Empowerment Activist, Advocates and the whole female populace of Ghana to react to his decision.

As many Ghanaians celebrate the selection of a female for the position of a Vice- President, others are asking why other females were not equally supported when they aspire for higher political offices. The likes of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawling, the former first lady who once showed interest in the office of the presidency and Akua Donkor came to mind.

Member of Parliament Okudzeto Ablakwa says that they want to be the first Party to produce a female Vice President for Ghana.

Her appointment could be a political strategy to appeal to the female populace to secure their votes, or it could be a genuine way of empowering women of this country to break through the glass ceiling of society.

Some people believe that Mr John Mahama together with Prof. Opoku – Agyemang is a recipe for defeat for the NDC in the general elections considering how John Mahama’s term of office went and Prof. Naana Jane cancelling of allowances for training teachers and nurses.
