GHANA- Tuesday, July 14, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has argued that the qualification of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman is not sufficient enough to hold the office of the Vice President.
According to Professor Adei, although her track record as a former education minister and former vice-chancellor is critical, it doesn’t measure up to her leadership skills.
“It is not sufficient criteria for success in that high office. It is a total national development management job” he noted.
He further argued that the vice president takes over management of the country in the absence of the president.
“We know being number two itself does not guarantee success in the number one position unless one has other competencies. We have had two cases of Vice Presidents later becoming Presidents in Ghana and your guess is as good as mine” he added.
These comments were contained in a rejoinder he read in an interview with an Accra based radio station on Monday, July 13, 2020, following reports by some media houses that the Professor had affirmed Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman as a leader.
Prof Adei, stated categorically that he had never granted an interview with any media house on the selection of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman.
Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman is the first female to be selected as running mate for presidential elections in the history of Ghana politics.
Her selection has received varying feedbacks from Ghanaians. Her 58 paged curriculum vitae outlines her achievements.
However, Prof Adei noted that but for the rejoinder, he would not have passed any comments on the selection of Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman as running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
