GHANA- Wednesday, July 15, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, also referred to as Nana B has stated that students infected with the coronavirus “brought it from their various homes”.

Final year students in Universities, basic and senior high schools were asked by the government to return to school to complete their final year exams in June, last month.

Upon resumption however, there have been recorded cases of COVID-19 in some Senior High Schools. Accra Girls Senior High Schools has recorded a total case count of 55 after recording only 6 cases on July 4, 2020. Other senior high schools like Mawuli SHS, Bishop Herman SHS, Mawuko Girls and Dabala SHS, all in the Volta region have equally recorded cases of COVID-19. A junior high school in the Oti region has been the first basic school to record a COVID-19 case.

Speaking at a party event at Kumasi on Tuesday, Nana B insists “It is important to note that the students who have tested positive for COVID-19 did not even contract the virus on their respective campuses, this is another strong point, that all of these cases, they brought it from their various homes.”

However, there are still calls to the Government to shut down schools as the cases continue to rise.

The Deputy Health Minister Dr Bernard Okoe Boye says however that should any school record a 15% total of coronavirus cases, Government would close down that school.

“If you have 500 students in the school if you get 35 that amount to seven per cent of the number. We either make them go home or find a way to deal with them separately. The allowed per cent is 7 per cent. If you have 14 or 15 per cent of the school population it is alarming”, he stated

Some Ghanaians believe the government is not handling the covid-19 situation well as the cases continue to increase. Ghana is amongst one of the African countries to have over 20,000 cases.
