GHANA- Thursday, July 16, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ After the rise of increasing COVID-19 cases in senior high schools across the country, 10 students in the Ahafo region are the newest to record such cases.
This was revealed by the Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services in an interview with Citi news today.
He further revealed that 24 health workers have contracted the virus and one of them has recovered.
“In the Ahafo Region, we have 24 of our staff who are confirmed COVID-19 cases. All of them are in isolation, one of them has recovered and for the students too, we have ten of our students, eight of them are in self-isolation. One has been discharged”, he disclosed.
He said there are plans underway to intensify education on COVID-19 since persons have relaxed on the health protocols put in place by the government.

Though the name of the SHS was undisclosed, it is not going to be the first to recorded cases after schools were opened for final year students.
The infamous Accra Girl’s SHS has already recorded 55 cases with a number of cases springing up in various senior high schools across the country.
A junior high school in the Oti region has also recorded a case.
Though there have been cries to the government to close down schools due to the case increase, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa seems to think otherwise as he calls the move “disastrous”.
“We are hoping that when they get to the exam time because we have two or three weeks before they write exams, all issues will subside…but sending them home will be disastrous”, he said.
In a related development, various teacher unions, GNAT, NAGRAT, TEWU and the coalition of concerned teachers have called on the government to close down schools.
