Methodist Girls’ final year student died of meningitis- Father

GHANA- Monday, July 20, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Father of final year Methodist Girls’ Senior High School student who passed on on Friday, July 17, 2020 says that his daughter died of meningitis.

Cindy Aku Sika Addo, a final year General Arts students passed on at the Koforidua government hospital after she was diagnosed with acute malaria. She was transferred from the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital after her friends found out that she had taken ill.

In an interview with Joy FM today, her father Mr Alex Addo says that “the medical experts say it’s Meningitis. According to the school it started on Thursday and Friday they took her to the hospital… It’s hard, it’s hard”.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) released a statement on Sunday, July 19, 2020 to confirm the death of the said student. It contained that the school authorities rushed the said student to the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital at Mampong around 11 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2020.

The statement contained that Cindy passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020, after she was transferred to the Koforidua government hospital.

Cindy was amongst 20 students who fainted due to excessive smoke from burning refuse in the school. Her father said in an earlier interview that his daughter called him to pick her up from school since she couldn’t bear the pain.

Final year students were directed by the president to return to school to complete their final exams. Cindy sums up to three students who have lost their lives due to illness since school resumed almost a month ago.

Parents have been denied assess to see their wards in order to prevent spread of the coronavirus.

Government has been called to shut down schools but it says it has the situation under control.
