GHANA- Thursday, July 23, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Currently receiving treatment in the hospital after a failed suicide attempt, second year student of the Ejisu Secondary Technical Senior High School is believed to have drunk liquid soap.
The victim who has still not been identified is reported to have been locked in the office of the Assistant Headmaster together with another colleague, overnight for allegedly stealing the school’s electric stabilizer on Tuesday night, July 21, 2020.
The two students were reported by a taxi driver who claimed he saw them jumping the school wall with the stabilizer.
Speaking to Luv FM, the assistant headmaster admitted that he kept the children in office because other school authorities were not present to deal with the issue as the students were not being truthful.
“They were not telling me the truth. It was late in the night and school management were not around. Headmistress too wasn’t around so I did not want to take any decision outside them so I decided to keep them in my office so that the following morning (Wednesday), when the head and other members come, we sit on it and trash the issue,” the headmaster explained.
The headmaster added that “they called me this morning and said that he had drank some of the liquid soap. So quickly we came and he was there on the ground. We then took him to the hospital.”
The said student is currently receiving treatment at the Ejisu Government Hospital.
The incident has since been reported to the police.
Second year gold track students were directed by the government to join final year senior high school students in order to continue their education amidst the coronavirus.
As part of the directives, students are to adhere strictly to all safety protocols and are not expected to leave their school. The resumption however has been greeted by unpleasant events as three final year students have already lost their lives.
