The Nigerian billionaire who was arrested about a month ago was accused of a multimillion-dollar fraud and money laundering by the United States was arrested by the FBI from Dubai with another cyber-heist suspect Olalekan Jacob Ponle also known as Mr Woodberry in the world of social media.
Hushpuppii before his arrest used to flaunt his wealth to his over 2.5 million Instagram followers, and made an appearance in court on July 3, 2020.
Social media got wild as there were reports of his said release with some users happy that he had been left off the hook.
His lawyer, Gal Pissetzky says however that Hushpuppi is still in police custody and is being transferred to California, United States of America, for trial.
Speaking to The PUNCH on Wednesday night, his lawyer insisted that his client was still in police custody.
“He has not been released and I am still his lawyer. He is on his way to California. Not everything you see on court documents is accurate.
“Just because the jail record says ‘released’ does not mean he has been released. He is being transferred to California,” his lawyer said to a reporter.
Dubai police says that the 37-year-old and his gang defrauded 1,926,400 people from different parts of the world and stole about 1.6bn Dirham (N168bn).
