The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its 2020 manifesto, highlighting a breakdown of what the party considers as worthy of achievements in their first term in office based on which it is seeking another opportunity to run the country.
The manifesto, which is themed “Leadership of Service; Protecting Our Progress, Transforming Ghana for All”, chronicles the party’s promises and policies it seeks to implement if voted into power in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at the launch, President Akuffo-Addo said that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) sudden proclamation of delivering free SHS and free TVET, cannot be trusted. According to the party, it will review the free SHS policy if they attain power in the December polls. This idea to the NPP is deceptive and not trustworthy.
According to the President, the opposition party is simply using the term “review” in place of cancellation.
“We have no reason to believe the NDC presidential candidate’s newly proclaimed conversion to free SHS and free TVET. For eight years, he and his party were loud in their assertions that they did not believe in free SHS and free TVET, they did not like the idea, they rubbished it at every opportunity, and they proclaimed that it would destroy Ghana’s educational system” he said.
“When they were in office, they had a hard time trying to run even their watered-down version of their so-called progressively free education. Then the former President said he would “review” it, and now we hear him say it has come to stay. Excellency, please try another one. Your credibility on this one is zero, free SHS, free TVET cannot be trusted in your hands” he added.
“It was not easily done, and, so, we intend to protect it, and prevent any so-called ‘review’, another word for cancellation.”
The NDC, on the other hand, is yet to unveil its manifesto. However, the party has set August 29, 2020, as the provisional date for the launch of its manifesto.
Meanwhile, the party’s flagbearer has already given some hints of the polices the party seeks to implement if voted into power.
