Chelsea has, reportedly, submitted a new bid worth €100m for Bayer Leverkusen attacking and right-wing midfielder, Kai Havertz, a deal which according to Fabrizio Romano, has been agreed upon by the Bayer Leverkusen board. “Just a matter of time”, he wrote on Instagram.

Personal terms have been agreed upon by Havertz weeks ago. “Kai was pushing to join after speaking with Lampard and he wants to play Champions League football. Havertz contract with Chelsea will be until June 2025”, Fabrizio stated on his Instagram page.

The potential arrival of Havertz to Chelsea would provide Coach Lampard with a varying and promising array of attacking players for this season. The promise of competing in the Champions League next season is certain to have provided a major push for the player to accept the transfer; an opportunity he won’t get should choose to stay at Leverkusen.

A player as versatile as Havertz is bound to increase Chelsea’s chances at grabbing a silverware this season. He is set to become the record transfer for Chelsea, surpassing the €72m fee paid to Atletico Madrid in 2018 for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Bayer Leverkusen had wanted the fee paid upfront but with their star midfielder showing interest in the English Club, they agreed to relent on the little details to complete his departure. There has been an agreement between Havertz and Leverkusen that he could move on to any other club provided the team in question paid the price tag the Bundesliga team place on him.

Kai Havertz moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2010 from Alemannia Aachen at the age of 11 years. He made his debut for the German Club on October 15, 2016, during the second half in their match against Werder Bremen. Havertz has appeared for Leverkusen 118 times and has a scored a total of 36 goals for the side.
