Cedric Soares together with Pablo Mari has signed long-term deals with the Gunners after spending the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal. Arsenal has officially confirmed that both players will be joining the club on a long-term basis following how well they have played during their loans to the club.
Soares was loaned to Arsenal from Southampton for six months in January. He struggled with injury but managed to appear for the side 5 times for the side in the Premier League, scoring a goal on his debut in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory against Norwich in June.
Mari, on the other hand, moved to Arsenal from Flamengo, a Brazilian team, in January with the option of making his move permanent; a deal the Gunners have taken him upon. He made only two Premier League appearances for Arsenal but he has this season to make an impression and prove he is the right man for the job.
According to Arsenal Official statement: “We have reached agreement with both Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares to join the club on permanent deals”. It further states that: “We welcome both Pablo and Cedric to the club on a permanent basis and look forward to their continued contributions”.
This is a move to bolster the defence of the Emirates for the 2020/21 season as strengthening the defence of Arsenal has a been a priority for Mikel Arteta. The acquisition of these players is expected to be followed by Lille Defender Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba from Sait-Etienne; a promising back lineup for Arsenal. But more important than any new arrival is the extension of the contract of star striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. It has been said that the Gabonese will stay a bit longer at Arsenal; an announcement to be made this week.
