Newcastle goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka will miss the beginning of the 2020/21 season of the English Premier League due to an injury, says the Club. The 31-year-old player who has played for Newcastle in every League game since his arrival to the side is expected to stay on, he sidelines for several weeks to come due to a heel injury he sustained in training last week.

“Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will miss the start of the 20202/21 Premier League season after suffering a heel injury”. “Dubravka has not missed a Premier League game since making his debut in a 1-0 win against Manchester United in February 2018 and won the club’s Player of the Season award for 2019/20”, says a statement on the official webpage of Newcastle.

This news will have an effect on the Newcastle team as they have all come to rely on the goalkeeper to keep their goal line safe. Steve Bruce, head coach for the side will now have to look to Karl Darlow as Dubravka’s substitute or Mark Gillespie.

This also means that the goalkeeper will have to sit out Slovakia’s UEFA Nations League fixtures against the Czech Republic and Israel next month. Slovakia’s head coach, Pavel Haval thinks that “He has problems with his ankle, he dropped out for six to eight weeks. I believe he will be fine for the next matches”.

Newcastle’s striker Dwight Gayle has also come down with an ankle injury, facing months out for recovery. Dwight sustained his injury in Tuesday’s pre-season victory over Crewe. He came on as a substitute in the second half of the game but Dwight was replaced after 18 minutes of play by Daniel Barlaser. The striker went for a scan on his ankle and has been told that he will be out for months instead of weeks like everyone thought.
