The English goalkeeper, Dean Henderson is excited for the opportunity to battle De Gea for the number 1 spot at Manchester United, says his agent. Henderson was a brilliant shot-stopper in the back-to-back seasons on loan at Sheffield United. He shone brightly enough on loan to even catch the attention of Southgate, Manager of the Senior England team.
There were talks of transfer offers from some teams for Henderson including Chelsea, who was just monitoring how things would turn out. But the 23-year-old goalkeeper decided that his future was at Manchester United; he affirmed this by signing a five-year contract with the Red Devils last month. This has given him the opportunity to vie for De Gea’s position on Manchester United’s Sheet.
His representative, David Lee says that Henderson “…will do whatever it takes…” to ensure he performs brilliantly in the upcoming competitions. David said, “Obviously, you’ve got a world-class goalkeeper as number one for Manchester United. He’s made a few mistakes, let’s be fair, but he’s still a top, top goalkeeper, still a world-class goalkeeper”.
About Henderson, David said, “There are some players that, when you think of them playing for a big club you worry about them, can they take the pressure every week? But Dean would have no problem with that, he’s a confident boy. He’s ready, he wants to push people. I’m sure they’re good friends in training and have a good working relationship but Dean will be focused on getting that number one spot that’s for sure and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it”.
Throughout the English Premier League last season, Henderson kept 16 clean sheets out of the 36 matches he played in. Manchester United begins their Premier League campaign this Saturday against Crystal Palace. Whether Henderson will play or not is yet to be decided.
