Women Elite League Players Receive First YEA Stipend

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that beneficiaries of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), specifically under the Youth in Sport Module have received their first monthly stipend.

This Module seeks to train the youth in the various Sports in Ghana and equip them with the necessary skills in Sports Development Management.

The GFA reached an agreement to accept and train five hundred players in the Women’s Premier League on the Youth in Elite Sports Programme in regards to the Sports Module initiative of the YEA. This allowance, however, falls under the Government’s COVID-19 Alleviation Programme. For one thousand Ghanaian Athletes, the Government promised to support them with funds through the YEA.

In regards to this, the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Youth Employment Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding to commence the initiative on 27th June, 2020. The programme is expected to run for a period of six months.

The YEA under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations launched this initiative under the Community Improvement Module, reads a press release on the Youth in Sports Programme. According to their official website the YEA, the programme has been created to “train and employ a section of young people and sports enthusiasts…”.

This Programme, in the long run, is meant to prepare young people academically and practically to take positions in Sports Management and Sports Development. It offers the beneficiaries the chance to study different forms of Sports Disciplines such as Pitch Management, Federation Assistants, Fitness and Wellness, Coaching and Refereeing and Sports Journalism.

The Programme is designed to have two main levels. Level 1 will focus on training for people on assistance and support to be employed in the sports industry. It will include courses on Pitch Management, Federation Assistants and more. Level 2 is for people mainly in need of training assistance for their career development in Sports. It will include Coaching and Refereeing, Sports Journalism amongst others.
