Ahly Joins Race to Sign Youcef Belaili

Ahly, the League leaders of the Egyptian Premier League have joined the race to acquire the Algerian Winger, Mohamed Youcef Belaili who currently plays for Saudi side Al-Ahli of Jeddah.

Reports have it that the Egyptian side is in deep in contact with the player in hopes of swiping him from under the noses of the top African Clubs after the player.

“Egypt’s Ahly is a big team and they have a large number of trophies, but the deal won’t be finalised unless an agreement is reached on the financial details with the Saudi team”, said Belaili’s agent.

According to the winger’s manager and father, Hafiz Belaili, top-notch African Clubs like Esperance of Tunisia and Egypt’s Zamalek and Pyramids FC have all shown interest in acquiring the lad but by far, Ahly’s negotiation seems serious.

“A representative of Zamalek contacted us, but without any development in the negotiations, and Pyramids FC management also asked about the player’s services but there are no new talks”, Hafiz said in an interview.

“The offer of Egypt’s Ahly is the most serious, as Youcef welcomes it, but we have to reach a deal with Al-Ahli of Jeddah. We won’t close the door on any team who want to sign the player, as the three Egyptian teams are big and whoever makes a good offer will sign him”, Hafiz added.

The 28-year-old player began his football career with CA Bord Bou Arréridj, in Algeria and then he later moved to Mouloudia d’Oran, where he scored 15 goals in the 47 appearances he made in the Algerian League.

Belaili then joined Tunisian giants Esperance in the 2012 season, scoring 11 goals in 55 appearances. He moved on to Al-Ahli of Jeddah last season. Belaili moved from Algeria to join Esperance in Tunisia during the 2012 season where he appeared 55 times for the side and scored 11 goals. He then moved on to Al-Ahli of Jeddah last season.

The winger was part of the Algerian National squad that won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title. In that same year, he was named the 2019 African Inter-Club player of the year.
