The Coach of the Black Stars, Charles Kwabla Akonnor has refused to close the chapter on Sulley Muntari, the former AC Milan star despite his ban from the National Team. Coach Akonnor could extend an invitation to the midfielder after he indicated that his meeting with the player has proved that he is still fit even though he plays for no club.
According to Akonnor, Muntari still exhibits the hunger for football action like any player in his prime and so as far as he is concerned, he will not rule him out of the shortlist of players for the national team yet. Therefore, it is possible to invite the 35-year-old back to the National team. He has featured in all three World Cups with the Black Stars thus in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
“I met Sulley Muntari some few weeks ago and I was honestly impressed with what I saw him do with the ball but time will tell. With Kevin-Prince Boateng too, time will tell. I know he is doing well and he will return to Italy. So, we are keeping track of him and we will see,” he spoke to Starr FM.
The ex-Inter Milan and AC Milan star midfielder was in a fallout with the Black Stars after he was suspended indefinitely together with players Kevin Prince Boateng over alleged misconduct in the camp of the team during the FIFA WORLD CUP in 2014 at Brazil. According to the report from GFA, the decision was taken in the wake of his unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting. And so with immediate effect, Muntari’s accreditation for the 2014 World Cup was withdrawn.
