GHANA- A committee has been set up by the National Security to investigate the assault on Caleb Kudah as officers are facing investigation and disciplinary action.
The press statement indicates that the arrest and assault on the City FM journalist on May 11 2021 were inappropriate and contravene the ministry’s standard operating procedures.
In light of this, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman, the Director of Operations at the Ministry of National Security has been reversed and the three police officers involved have been withdrawn and are to report to the Ghana police service for investigation and disciplinary action.
The Ministry noted that Caleb Kudah’s unauthorised entry into the National security premises was unlawful.
The letter signed by the Minister for National Security, Honourable Albert Kan-Dapaah also stated that the measures are being taken to ensure that the general public trust the ministry in the performance of their work and delivery of the highest professional standard and accountability.
Caleb on Tuesday, May 12, 2021, entered the premises of the National Security without authorisation to film abandoned cars procured by MASLOC.
Caleb Kudah was arrested and according to him handcuffed, slapped and kicked while detained and interrogated for hours. He also narrated his traumatic experience by stating that he denied his Ewe tribe for fear of being beaten severely, thus saying that he was a Fante from Cape Coast.
“They pushed me and I sat on the chair. They slapped me from the back. I was trying to appeal to them that they had beaten me enough, but they were just slapping me from the back. I’ll be talking to another one and someone will just come and slap me from the back.”
The operatives afterwards raided Citi FM in an attempt to arrest Mrs Zoe Abu- Baidoo Addo for receiving videos taken by Caleb. However, the management of Citi FM/Citi TV intervened to prevent the arrest of Mrs Abu-Baidoo Addo. However, she was escorted to the National Security Ministry where she was interrogated and later released in the evening.
Caleb’s experience has brought about serious criticism against National security as some Ghanaians questioned the ease at which Caleb Kudah was able to enter a highly secured place like the National Security supposed to secure the safety of Ghana and Ghanaians, therefore losing public trust.
Others also questioned the National Security’s standard of operation concerning the assaults on Caleb.
