Coronavirus test negative
Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate revealed on Tuesday 7th April that 43 COVID-19 contacts traced tested negative of coronavirus.
The Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, confirms that about the 46 contacts traced to the one COVID-19 case in the Upper West Region all came out negative.
Ghana’s confirmed COVID-19 total cases stand at 287, with five deaths. 73 new cases were recorded as of Tuesday.
Lockdown
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in a statement by their National Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, has called on the government to declare a nationwide lockdown as a measure in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also recommends a three-month waiver on electricity bills (GH¢300/month cap for households and GH¢500/month cap for commercial entities), since free and continuous access to water and electricity are necessities in our fight against the coronavirus.
Hotline for food
To prevent hunger, social gathering and movement, the government has announced hotlines for needy communities and households to reach out for food items. The numbers are 0800800800 and 0800900900. Share for people in need to know and call.

Proposal to test homemade masks
Mr Muntaka Chasant has requested that the homemade masks must be tested in the laboratory to ensure their efficacy for protection against the COVID-19. Many people are making mask at home to protect themselves. However, some may not be effective to trap particles from the air. Mr Muntaka Chasant is an entrepreneur in Airmasks and Textiles.
It is important that we find a quick solution in making mask available to everyone to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) committment to fight COVID-19.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) declares when the Association met with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra that they will sacrifice to fight and contain the spread of the COVID-19 in the country no matter what it takes.
“we know some of us will be taken away by COVID-19, but that is not going to let us down,” Dr Frank Ankobea, the GMA President, said.
We pray that the government provide them with all the necessary tools for them to work safely without any casualty. No one will die! We will all fight together.
Donation to Ghana’s COVID-19 Trust Fund
GH¢ 50,000 has been added to Ghana’s COVID-19 Trust Fund. The donation was made by Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, the Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research at the ECOWAS Commission based in Abuja, Nigeria.
Dr. Apraku, is a leading member of the New Patriotic Party and a former Minister of State.
“I am hopeful that the contribution would enable us to acquire additional medical supplies, protective gears and medical tools necessary to fight and mitigate the adverse impacts of the pandemic on our people and economy and further ensure that we continue the testing of all those suspected of the infection”, he said in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday after the donation was made on his behalf.
The MTN Ghana Foundation has also doanted an amount of GH¢5 million to COVID-19 Trust Fund. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Selorm Adadevoh, said: “COVID-19 is, unquestionably, testing our society’s fortitude and we all have a role to play in helping our country to overcome this global challenge.”
All donations are for the procurement of medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essentials to support frontline medical staff as a measure to the fight the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
