ACCRA, Ghana – Thursday, June 25, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/—DR Congo celebrates the end of the Ebola outbreak in Africa after many Ebola outbreak which was discovered near the Ebola River in 1976. This is confirmed by the World Health Organisation.
DR Congo experienced the worst Ebola outbreak two years ago and claim over 2,000 lives.
According to the Health Minister, Eteni Longondo of DR Congo, The outbreak was ‘the longest, most complex and deadliest’ in the 60-year history
“Today we are celebrating a joyous occasion – the end of the 10th #Ebola outbreak in #DRC. This outbreak took so much from all of us, especially from the people of Flag of Congo – Kinshasa, but we came out of it with valuable lessons & tools: a licensed vaccine, identified effective treatments,” tweeted Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
“It wasn’t easy and at times it seemed like mission impossible,” said Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organization’s Africa regional director.
DR Congo celebrates the Ebola front line heroes. “In some places, they threw stones at us, but in others, community leaders became engaged & fought alongside us for the survival of their people,” Dr Freddy Banza.
The largest Ebola outbreak in history occurred in West Africa from 2013-2016. It killed over 11,300 people mostly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
