Egypt announces 9 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

The Egyptian Ministry of Health reported on Saturday nine new infections with the coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total count to 294 cases, according to an official statement.

The number of deaths from the novel disease currently stands at 10 after two cases passed away. 

The newly detected cases are Egyptian citizens who had been in contact with previously confirmed patients, spokesman of the health ministry Khaled Megahed, revealed. 

The total number of patients whose COVID-19 test results came back negative grew to 73, of which 41 have fully recovered and have been discharged from the quarantine.

All patients are receiving adequate medical treatment at quarantine hospital, as per the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) instructions, Megahed clarified.

He further reiterated that no COVID-19 infections were reported in Egypt’s governorates except for the officially announced numbers, adding that the government would immediately announce any new suspected cases as it is fully transparent regarding the number of patients, in accordance with international health regulations and in full cooperation with the WHO.
