GHANA- Saturday, July 18, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Amidst registration for the 2020 general elections the Electoral Commission has dismissed two temporary officials for acts of misconduct.
In a communique released by the EC on the July 18, 2020 it contained that the temporary officials “were alleged to have been caught in the course of illegally registering residents of a community in Tamale” in the Savannah region.
The EC is said to have relieved the officials of their post whiles investigations are still underway in order to make them “face the full rigours of the law”.
The Electoral Commission further called on all citizens to report person who indulge in acts “aimed at undermining the integrity of the 2020 Voters Registration Exercise”.
The Electoral Commission set out to register eligible Ghanaians for the 2020 general elections on June 30 to August 6, 2020.
Persons who want to register must be citizens of Ghana and 18 years or above. They must be of sound mind and be residents in their electoral area.
Applicants must possess a passport, National Identification Card (NIA Card), ie ECOWAS card. In the absence of any or both, an applicant must have two guarantors who have already registered for the ongoing Voters ID.in order to confirm Ghanaian citizenship.
The registration exercise would happen based on Cluster System. Each system would have 5 registration centres, in 5 phases and would span for a period of 3 days per phase.
This arrangement is to aid in reducing the spread of the coronavirus at the various centres.
