A fire has burnt the Electoral Commission office in Sapeiman in Accra. The office is known to be the Regional Office of the EC.
The fire as reported by Angelonline is said to have started in the early hours of Friday, August 14 2020, at 2am.

The fire was discovered by the security persons on duty who called the fire service for assistance.
Speaking to Univers news, Greater Accra Regional Director of the EC says that the outbreak won’t have any effect on dealings of the EC since the office houses “old registration forms used for 2012 elections and some of the old ballot boxes”.
“The main administration block is intact the place is just being used for the keeping of old items”, he said.

He admits however that “every item in the building has almost been consumed” by the fire.
Speaking on the possible cause of the outbreak, he said that “we cannot tell. Even the fire service has not been able to ascertain it. They are still conducting investigations so until they do it I don’t think we can put a finger on what particularly caused it. We can’t rule out anything until fire service puts out their report”.

Though the cause of the fire is unknown, the matter is being investigated by the Fire Service and the Ghana Police.
The situation has since been salved by the police.
