The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress has apologised to the National Peace Council and its Chairman for his failure to show up at a meeting with them.
The leaders of the NDC and the governing New Patriotic Party were expected to sign the final roadmap and code of conduct document on the eradication of political vigilantism in the country.
Although Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo did not give any reason for his absence, he said the party’s decision not to sign the roadmap and code of conduct stems from unresolved issues which the party raised with the roadmap.
Among these, he said the Council presented 22 deliverables to the political parties but only four of them can be enforced by the political parties.
He said the government, the judiciary, the Electoral Commission and other actors who have responsibilities must also sign on to the document.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo prayed for the continued collaboration with the Peace Council for a peaceful elections in December.
