The English Premier League is set and ready to begin the 2020/21 season after the complications and forceful break imposed on last season by the Coronavirus. But all that is behind us as fixtures for the first week of action for the 2020/21 season of the Premier League has been released.
All teams of the Premier League have been guaranteed by the Football Authorities that they have 30 days off, in between the closing of last season and the beginning of this season, due to the three months of break caused by the outbreak of the Coronavirus. As a result, Manchester United and Manchester City will both sit out the opening weekend of the Premier League to give them extra time to rest after their participation in the Europa League and the Champions League respectively.
Therefore, Burnley vs Manchester United and Manchester City vs Aston Villa will be rescheduled. Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ will play matches on Monday, September 14 as they too were involved in the European Competitions. Chelsea will play Brighton and Wolves will visit Sheffield.
Leeds will face the defending Champions of England, Liverpool at Anfield where they have not lost a league game in more than three years on September 12. This game promises to be a tough one for Leeds. Other opening fixtures scheduled for the same day include Crystal Palace vs Southampton, Fulham vs Arsenal, West Bromwich vs Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton and West Ham United will play Newcastle United.
These fixtures have been announced but their exact dates and the time for kick-off will be confirmed and communicated after the Television selections are made. Due to the presence of the Coronavirus all matches will be played behind closed doors in order to protect the players and spectators.
