The European Union (EU) Delegation is supporting institutions under the Ghana Employment and Social Protection Programme (GESP) to improve service delivery in the county.
The items handed over to the beneficiary institutions included vehicles, motorcycles, IT equipment and office furniture are estimated at € 1.9 million. The institutions benefiting from this EU support are under the Ministries of Local Government and Employment and Labour Relations, Office of the Head of Local Government Service, Selected District Assemblies, Center for Social Policy, School of Social Work and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).
Head of Cooperation EU Delegation to Ghana, Zoltan ÀGÀI in his address during the handing over ceremony at Alisa Hotel in Accra said the GESP Programme is providing support in areas of technical assistance, technical and vocational education and training and infrastructural development and this forms part of the EU’s commitment to improving service delivery for vulnerable groups, improving employment policy management and support to business development services.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister-Designate for Finance, Head of the National Authorization Office at the Ministry of Finance, Ebenezer Nortey said Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to tackling poverty and protecting the vulnerable from unexpected risk and shocks. He further stated that the Government sees the GESP as a timely and relevant intervention as it complements efforts by the state to bridge the poverty gap in the country.
Selected District Labour offices in the Bono, Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Northern, Upper West, Volta and Western regions are expected to benefit from this support.
Zoltan ÀGÀI said the global pandemic has further reiterated the need for effective support systems for vulnerable groups and the EU is proud that the GESP Programme is contributing to such support systems.
