As the world battles a common enemy, COVID-19, the major player in halting the pandemic has been attacked financially by President Trump who has decided to defund the WHO. According to Trump, the WHOs response in giving vital information needed to deal with COVID 19 at its inception caused the global pandemic. He also called on holding the WHO responsible for their actions and inactions.
However, many perceive Trump’s decision as dangerous, deadly and insensitive at this critical time that the virus is spreading with a shocking record of 1,991,562 confirmed cases and 130,885 deaths globally as of today 16th April.
Others also believe Trump is playing the blame game to mask his inability to deal properly with the virus in the US. The US is now the country most affected with 604,070 confirmed cases and 25,871 deaths as of today 16th April according to WHO.
As many are calling for solidarity amongst nations vital to end the pandemic, Melinda Gates and the Gates Foundation has decided to make an additional donation to the WHO in the amount of $150 million to enable the organization function effectively in dealing with COVID-19.
With supports by the Gates, not everyone is pleased with their actions and inactions. It must be recalled that Melida made a statement about how the virus will ravage Africa and Africans would soon see dead bodies all over the streets of Africa as Africa may not be able to handle the pandemic. She added that her heart is in Africa.
Unfortunately, many Africans did not take lightly to this doom statement and descended on her pronouncing curses and biblical quotations with some calling the Gates the beast and antichrist and declaring that her expectations will not manifest as Africa will shock the world with how the continent will successfully deal with the virus.
Melinda Gates is the wife of Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation and an American business magnate, software developer, investor, and philanthropist. Melida is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
