GHANA -Ghana records the new and faster spreading Delta Variant of Covid-19 at 10:00hours on Friday, July 2 2021. The Ministry of Information confirmed in a press release to the general public.

According to the Ministry of Information, the Covid-19 task force was advised by the Ghana Health Service that the new and faster spreading Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus has been recorded within a community (i.e. non-arriving passengers) in the latest round of genomic sequencing.

“Relevant agencies are taking the necessary steps to ensure that the spread of this deadly virus is contained. The Positive persons are in good health”, the Ministry stated. 

The COVID-19 task force will provide further details at 13:00hours on Sunday, July 4th, 2021 to the general public. Ghanaians are advised to adhere strictly to the covid-19 preventive etiquette while going about permitted activities.

According to the WHO, the #DeltaVariant is spreading to several African countries as 16 countries have recorded a case.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom on Friday, July 2 2021, warned that the Delta Variant of Covid-19 has been detected in at least 98 countries and is spreading quickly in countries with low and high vaccination coverage. 

Ghana has recorded 95,914 total covid-19 cases, 93,444 recoveries and 796 deaths.

Global covid-19 cases stands at 183,892,565, 168,313,093 recoveries and 3,981,045 deaths.
