GHANA- Thursday, July 16, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Electricity challenges would almost be a thing of the past as NEK engineering company has revealed that it would construct a 1,000 megawatts of wind power for Ghana.
The Swiss-based Engineering company says that it is taking this initiative to comply with the Renewable Energy Act (Act 832).
The Project Manager of NEK, Jasmine Kappiah says that “NEK has supported the renewable energy plan by the government of Ghana.”
The Project which would be completed in two phases will have the face phase of 150 megawatts of wind power constructed and the second phase of 75 megawatts constructed as soon the government gives its approval.
The wind farm would produce electricity on a relatively lower level in a sustainable manner.
The construction of the Ayitepa Wind Farm will provide ECG with an amount of 8.9 cents per kilowatt per hour which is much less than any other electricity producers can offer.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), Paa Kwesi Anamoah Sekyi in an exclusive interview with Class FM opined that renewable energy is the most suitable for Ghana.
For a country that has recently moved from the “dumsor” era and recently faced threats of going back, this project would go a long way to provide sustainable energy for the country once government approval is gained.
