ACCRA, Ghana – Tuesday, June 2, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/— As the world unite to condemn the injustice and killing of blacks in America, especially the current killing of George Floyd, a Black American in Minnesota, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi took to social media to post a cartoon depicting Jean Adukwei Mensa, the Electoral Commissioner’s knee on George Floyd’s neck.
Many Ghanaians immediately denounced the tweet and described it as disgusting and insensitive. Sammy’s attention was drawn to the tweet as people requested he take the post down but he ignored.
In response, Sammy twittered that the cartoon he posted was misinterpreted.
People questioned if there was any other meaning to the post if not already plain in context.
To many who vent their anger in response to Sammy’s post believe he has made a mess of himself and NDC as a political party and such actions have dire consequences which can lead to NDC losing the 2020 election.
He has been asked to delete the post and apologize not only to Ghanaians but to the entire world for using a hashtag and a painful image of George Floyd meant to seek justice and to stop racism.
There have been several occasions where some politicians use the least opportunities without regard to conscience, self-respect and dignity to mock and do petty politics to make a statement and gain political points.
