Ghanaians woke up to hear the horrific news of the shooting and killing of the Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford.
According to reports, the MP was shot on the Abeadze Dominase–Abeadze Duadzi–Mankessim road. About 6 armed highway robbers blocked the road and committed the heinous crime about 1:00 am on early Friday morning when the MP and his team were returning from a campaign. The robber shot him twice after claiming that the MP was part of those who had made things difficulty in Ghana after he identified himself.
President Akufo-Addo has expressed shock and sadness over the gruesome murder of the MP and has called on the police to bring the perpetrators to book. He said, “By all accounts, he was very much appreciated and loved by his constituents, and I expect the police to bring the perpetrators of this gruesome, cruel act to book as soon as possible,”
The Mankessim Divisional Command commenced an investigation and the Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has placed a ¢20,000 bounty on the robbers.
The remains of Ekow Quansah Hayford has been deposited at the Saltpond municipal hospital.
Ekow Quansah Hayford was also NPP candidate for the Mfantsiman Constituency in the upcoming elections.
