Ghanaian musician, Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda, known in showbiz as MzVee, says going to church helped her overcome depression.

According to her, although she had been depressed for a long time, 2018 was the highest point which saw her taking a break from music.

“I was deeply sad all the time. Very angry all the time, I didn’t want to talk to anyone…I was just really away from everybody. Depression gets to a point where you don’t even know what in particular is worrying you. It’s so many things you’ve harboured for so long and you explode at a point and you don’t know why but you are just sad. I’ve always known that I was not okay but 2018 was the height of everything.

“Last year was time away from everything and just having time for myself because I was in a very deep, dark place in my life and unfortunately I just couldn’t move anymore. So, last year, I needed to take time to myself and just reflect and try to get out of that space and get back. I didn’t even think I was going to come back to music,” she said in an interview on Citi TV.

She noted that although her family was very supportive during that period, going to church made her feel better.

“I started becoming more spiritual, religious and I realised that some people may not understand but going to church was so therapeutic. I don’t know but when I go to church and I leave, I feel so happy,” she said.

“The Bible has a lot of good stuff and so I go to church and I come back ten times better than I was the day before and it’s part of the reason I’m feeling this good today. And so, aside my mum, dad, family, sisters, church was good,” she added.
