Gory armed robbery incident: A police officer and a lady killed

GHANA- A gory daylight armed robbery attack led to the killing of a police officer and an unidentified lady to the shock of many Ghanaians.

In updating the general public, the Accra Regional Police P.R.O DSP Afia Tenge gave a full account of the incident.

P.R.O DSP Afia Tenge indicated that the unfortunate incident occurred at about 11: 30 am today Monday 14th June 2021. Some unidentified armed men of not less than three on a motorbike attacked a bullion van and started firing indiscriminately, resulting in the death of two people.

The bullion van was on a daily sales collection errand when the unfortunate event occurred on reaching James Town, near Korle-Bu.

The bullion driver sustained gunshot wounds while the policeman on escort duty and a lady yet to be identified died at the scene.

Two tellers on the bullion van escaped unhurt. The weapon of the policeman was taken away together with an unspecified amount of money.

The bullion driver has been taken to the Korle -Bu hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The crime scene expert has been invited to process the crime scene for police investigation.

The gory crime scene captured on video by some bystanders has been circulating on social media. The disturbing video shows the policeman’s lifeless body in a pull of blood as bystanders wail in shock.

“Meanwhile, anyone with information on this incident should contact the Accra Regional Police Command, the nearest Police Station, or call the Police emergency numbers 191 or 18555,” she stated.

In a related story, just five days ago on Wednesday, June 9, a video shows two armed men attacked a forex bureau near Honeysuckle in Osu in broad daylight.

The robbers fired warning shots and raided the forex bureau. The helpless security man and bystanders stood in shock while some run for their lives.

Most Ghanaians are beginning to wonder why daylight armed robbery is becoming rampant. Some people blame the gory armed robbery incident on unemployment and the high standard of living. Others also believe that the police must increase patrolling, which they assert has decreased in the past years.
