ACCRA, Ghana – Thursday, June 18, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/—Prominent journalist, Gary Al- Smith took to social media to declare he is one of the five infected with covid-19 after the Management of The Multimedia Group has informed the general public that five members of their team at their business offices in Accra have contacted Covid-19.
Gary wrote on Twitter. “Some personal news: As per the statement below, the Multimedia Group, where I work, has recorded five COVID-19 cases. I’m one of the five. After consultation with family, we’ve decided that from I speaking about my experience.
We believe this can be my small way of battling the stigmatization problem being faced by COVID-19 patients. I’m doing very well and being well taken care of. Expect more updates from now on. Gazza. “
Fellow renowned journalist, Israel Laryea expressed his gratitude to Gari for publicly declaring his #COVID19 status to stop the stigmatization of covid-19 victims. He also wishes him a speedy recovery. “This is what I was hoping from the others,” Israel said.
Furthermore, Israel called on other infected covid-19 victims who are prominent in society to confirm their status to help fight the stigma.
According to the Management of The Multimedia Group, the affected team members who were all asymptomatic have been isolated in line with case management protocols. They will also disinfect and deep cleanse their studios, offices and facilities daily as well as contact trace and testing of all staff.
Members of Parliament decided to keep their covid-19 status hidden from the general public after being tested. Some infected Parliamentarians and staff were said to breach the self-isolation and quarantine protocols by going to work.
These prompted public outrage amongst Ghanaians as they called out the lawmakers to practice the law they make to set good examples to the citizens.
Some Parliamentarians and Ministers also denied their status but was later confirmed publicly.
