ACCRA, Ghana – Wednesday, May 27, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/—Every year, Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) marks the June 4 uprising. The Former President will deliver the keynote address to mark the 41st anniversary on Thursday, June 4, 2020.
Due to Covid-19 and ban on a social gathering protocols instituted by the government, this year June 4 uprising anniversary will be celebrated through a live virtual broadcast with some select members of the media to cover the event.
The theme is inspired by the covid-19 pandemic and the ideals of the revolution is; Strengthening the Spirit of Patriotism, Resilience and Integrity in Difficult Times.
As part of the celebrations, donations will be made to the Muslim community in commemoration of the Eid ul Fitr. Also selected medical facilities will receive PPEs to support the fight against the coronavirus.
On June 4, 1979, members of the military, drawn mostly from the junior ranks and inspired by mass social and public discontent, took over the governance of the country after it had sunk into a state of social, economic and political decay.
The June 4 coup which has always been celebrated in Ghana by some members of the NDC and Mr Rawlings.
