United States International, Weston McKennie is set to join Italian Champions, Juventus from Schalke 04, a move that surprises everyone as the midfielder was rumoured to be heading for the English Premier League.
According to expert, Fabrizio Romano, the deal involves McKennie joining Juventus on loan with the option of being offered a permanent deal for Juventus. The value of the full deal is said to be under $25m.
Southampton, West Ham, Newcastle and some other Premier League teams were interested in McKennie. Hertha and Monaco also offered the player a transfer deal but it looks like he will be heading for Juventus.
This would be a very good deal and a huge step for the midfielder should it push through. Juventus is the biggest and most celebrated club in Italy with the names of some of the best players in the world on their squad list. If the deal works out, McKennie will be leaving behind a struggling Schalke to join a Champions League contender. McKennie joined Schalke in August 2016 where he spent a year with the side’s academy team. He was promoted to the first-team squad in May 2017. McKennie was given the chance to appear for the first for the side in a match against FC Ingolstadt, a match that ended in a draw. This was his only appearance in the 2016/17 season. In the 2017/18 season, McKennie made his first action permanent, appearing over 22 times for side. He proved himself to be a versatile playing by playing in multiple midfield positions and helping out in the defense of the team. In total, the midfielder has made a total of 75 appearances for Schalke and has scored 4 goals.
