GHANA- Monday, July 13, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Mr John Mahama, flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), over the weekend urged citizens in the Volta region to keep cool heads as they go out in their numbers to register for the new voters registration card despite the presence of the military at the various registration centres.
Mr Mahama said there have been complaints from some citizens of intimidation from the military personnel in some of the constituencies he visited in the region and encouraged the people not to feel ‘angered’ by the situation but to go out in their numbers and register to vote.
He made these comments when he paid a courtesy call to Togbe Afede as part of his tour of the region on Saturday, July 11, 2020.
The flagbearer revealed that the people’s civic rights are fundamental thus, cannot be curtailed by the presence of the military at the voter registration centres.
Mr Mahama further commended Togbe Afede and the National House of Chiefs for continually speaking to the moral conscience of the nation on topical matters and reprimanding individuals regardless of their political representation.
The flagbearer visited Akatsi-South, Akatsi-North, Ketu-South, Ketu-North, South Tongu, Agotime-Ziope and Ho Central constituencies to personally assess the registration exercise which is alleged to have been botched by harassment and intimidation from the military.
