As the world struggles to contain the coronavirus and find a vaccine, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced to the world that Russia has found a vaccine and is the first in the world.

Even though it has been the greatest news the world has been waiting for so many people are in doubt of the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Some scientist and some international health experts claim the untested Sputnik 5 COVID-19 vaccine is dangerous and unsafe for humans. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also claimed the vaccine has not passed all the necessary scientific checks before being licenced.

However, Kenya has been reported to already engage Russia for the Sputnik 5 COVID-19 vaccine after President Putin claimed that the Sputnik 5 vaccine works quite effectively and has passed all the necessary checks. “I know that it is quite effective, that it gives sustainable immunity,” Putin said.

The health chief administrative secretary, Mercy Mwangangi said, “We definitely will plug in and work with Russia to ensure that the vaccine is safe before we use it,”

Mercy Mwangangi stated that the Kenyan government will follow protocols through its foreign ministry.

The first covid-19 case was reported in Kenya on March 15, 2020, in Nairobi and Mombasa. It has been reported that Kenya just like other countries have been affected with covid-19 causing financial problems and high level of unemployment with over 300,000 people losing their jobs.

Many people are questioning what African countries are doing or contributing in finding a vaccine as some people believe it is time Africans and African leaders take health care serious and improve on it drastically than constantly depending on the West and other continents for health aid.
