ACCRA, Ghana – Tuesday, May 26, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/—The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, answering questions on twitter said they are not opening schools now. This was amongst the many questions asked the Minister by many Ghanaian twitter users.

The Minister this afternoon at 4 pm on twitter with the #AskTheInfoMinister apart from reopening schools made certain doubts clear to most Ghanaians who sought answers to issues relating to COVID-19.

Reopening schools

Some students express the frustration with numerous assignments given to them by their lecturers and prefer the reopening of school. One student wrote, “I am tired of being home with this online assignment and things. Open tertiary so we go to school.”

Another student wrote, “The Assignments are too much but it’s better than Social distancing in exams.

Ghanaians living abroad and those stranded

A twitter user wrote, “Please the stranded Ghanaians are still waiting for your update, we want to come back home”.

Another Ghanaian stranded in Saudi Arabia made an emotional appeal to the Minister, “Please open the border for stranded Ghanaians in Saudi Arabia, we are ready to pay for our Air travel fee, please we want to come back home”.

In responding to questions concerning Ghanaians living abroad and those stranded, the Minister stated that they are gathering data from Ghanaians living abroad and the data is being examined on cohort by cohort basis.

“We are going through a process of examining what it takes to open the borders.” The Minister added.

Whiles some are calling for the reopening of borders, others explain the cons and pros by stating that it helps those stranded abroad if borders are opened. However, the risk involved is that opening the borders can lead to the influx of more COVID-19 cases in Ghana.

Ghana has recorded 6, 964 COVID-19 cases, 2097 recoveries and 32 deaths.
