Veteran highlife musician, Lucky Mensah yesterday released a new song on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene.
The single track, dubbed ‘Shawele’ was given first-time airplay on political talk show after he appeared to talk about his new song for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2020 elections.
Hit with emotions in the middle of the show, Lucky Mensah quickly brought a pen drive and ordered the presenter to retrieve the track to get it played first on the show.
‘Shawele’, coined from a Ga word meaning ‘Shake your waste’, is a blend of Ga and Twi lyrics with a hilife rhythm.
The musician clearly explained the meaning behind the song to the host of Ghana Dadwene, Nana Yaw Opare that ‘Shawele’ is an old Ga song “so I added some words and Twi version to make it better”.
He added that the song is meant for Gas to dance because they are the best dancers in the country.
Lucky Mensah said by September the full song and the video will be out when he was asked when the song will formally be released.
He explained that the song is part of an album he is working on with Sister Afia.
“It has 10 songs but I am releasing it one after the other. The video will be released next month.”
After talking about his song he expressed disappointment in the ex President, John Mahama for being selected as the flag bearer of the NDC.
Lucky Mensah said the former President has risen from the low level of politics to the presidency so he should have given other people the opportunity to lead the nation.
“You have risen in all the ranks. From unit committee member to an assembly member, to MP, then to Deputy Minister and then the Minister and then to Vice President to the President. You have done all these so why don’t you step aside. I am surprised he is coming back,” he observed.
