Manchester City is considering and preparing financially ahead of a possible transfer deal with Barcelona for the legendary Lionel Messi. They are contemplating on whether they can actually afford the prolific goal scorer amid the suggestions that he could leave Barcelona this summer.
Lionel Messi has been pondering over his future at Barcelona after their disgraceful 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich, ending the entire season’s campaign of the Spanish side without a trophy for the first time in over a decade. Messi has about 12 months left on his deal with Barcelona and the new coach, Ronald Koeman is desperately trying to keep the Argentine on his side. And so, he together with the Barcelona Officials has taken the stance that Messi is not for sale and he can only be acquired if the parties interested can activate his €700m clause attached to his contract.
Koeman has already started out on his rebuilding of Barcelona plan by clearing out some players including Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Samuel Umtiti and Ivan Rakitic but he hopes to build the around Messi in the coming seasons. But in his discussions with Messi about his future, last week, the forward expressed his doubts about staying in Barcelona. Messi has now made his decision and will be announcing soon whether he will stay or move on to another club.
The English side, Manchester City, are examining their chances of acquiring the goal wizard without breaching the Financial Fair Play rules. They are conscious of the fact that signing the Messi will be very complicated, considering how valuable the player is to the Barcelona and how expensive he is but they are keeping their eyes peeled in case there is the slightest chance of getting their hands on the player.
Despite their how badly this season ended for Messi, he finished with 25 goals and 21 assists in 33 appearances; prove that no matter what he is just an exceptional player.
