Mason Greenwood of Manchester United and Manchester City’s Phil Foden have both been removed from the England squad to face off against Denmark tomorrow. The boss of Three Lions, Gareth Southgate has confirmed that the pair has breached the COVID-19 Quarantine Guidelines after the footage of them with girls in their hotel room emerged on Icelandic Media on Sunday.
“Nothing has happened in the areas we occupy in the hotel. We are still getting to the depths of all the information because this was only brought to my attention a couple of hours before training, so I’m still getting to grips with the details”. “What is clear is there is a breach of the COVID-19 guidelines. The whole squad have really followed that to the letter. I’m not going to go into any more details until I’m aware of everything”, Southgate said at a press conference today.
Following the allegations, the players were exempted from training this and prevented from interacting with the other members of the squad whilst the FA conducted their investigations. The FA has now found that the pair have clearly breached the Quarantine rules and Behaviour rules and have decided to send them home.
“…we had to decide they couldn’t have interaction with the rest of the team”. “Given the procedures, we have to follow they will have to travel home separately”, says Southgate.
It is believed that the Quarantine Protocols at the hotel the England team resided was so strict that the team was not even allowed to meet their family members. But the two girls, posting a video and pictures on social media showing the pair in their hotel room showed a very clear breach in the guideline. Coach Southgate has described the boys as young and naïve but according to him, “They have got responsibilities and they have apologised”.
