GHANA- The coalition of Former Menzgold Customers today called on Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to ask him to help them retrieve their locked up funds with the now-defunct company.
The leader of the ten-man delegation, which called on Speaker Isaac Nyarko expressed worry about the impact of the closure of Menzgold on customers and their families, adding that the banking sector cleanup didn’t help matters.
Menzgold customers have not been able to retrieve their monies like other customers of some defunct banks despite several demonstrations and petitions to the government.
Some customers due to shock lost their lives, some paralysed, some got a stroke and others mentally traumatise apart from being poor due to their investment in men gold.
Some Ghanaians are yet to come to terms with the reality that the founder is still free and not arrested.
Menzgold Ghana Limited, founded by Nana Appiah Mensah was a fraudulent gold dealership and investment firm that promised customers an average of 7-10 per cent monthly returns on investments. It was finally shut down by the Government of Ghana.
The firm is reported to have initially traded as Menzbank; then changed to Menzbanc and then finally to Menzgold, due to warnings from the Bank of Ghana about the use of ‘bank’ as a company name for a non-banking entity.
