Ministry of Gender marks World Day against Trafficking in Persons (Blue Day)

GHANA- Thursday, July 30, 2020/ https://africanpostonline.com/– The Human Trafficking Secretariat under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has organized a durbar for Traditional Authorities in Koforidua, as part of the commemoration of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

The theme for this year’s celebration is dubbed “ Stakeholders act now to end human trafficking amidst COVID-19 in Ghana: The role of traditional leaders.

The World Day against Trafficking in Persons was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/68/192. The day since its official proclamation is marked globally on the 30th of July every year.

The United Nations theme for this year is “Committed to the cause- working on the frontline to end human trafficking”. The choice for this year’s theme is to focus on honouring the first responders namely, law enforcement officers, social workers, healthcare professionals, the staff of various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and others working to protect the vulnerable victims.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection with messages from gender and social welfare experts on social media. Some of them are as follows;

“ Human traffickers target the vulnerable and individuals going through tough times. During this COVID-19 period, be aware of the tricks and malice of human traffickers. Let us stand together to break the demand and supply chain in human trafficking.” Honourable Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

“Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity let us all stand together in the fight against human trafficking. It is real, COVID-19 too is real. STOP ALL FORMS OF EXPLOITATION” Abena Annobea Asare, Head, Human Trafficking Secretariat, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

“Take a stand against human trafficking. It is a heinous crime against humanity. Do not be vulnerable to traffickers in this COVID-19 pandemic. Be responsible and empowered. Together we can end human trafficking in all forms. Let us all commit to the fight against human trafficking” Honourable Freda Prempeh, Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
