A gentleman in Ghana, Richard Kwarteng has designed an automatic solar washbasin with a used oil barrel.
The design is in support of hand washing amid COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the World Health Organization, handwashing is an efficient way of preventing COVID-19 from spreading.
Before COVID-19, washbasin was not available on the street. However, the novel coronavirus has compelled restructuring of society and new methods of doing things. Ghanaians are finding new ways to create by putting their talent and skills to use.
The automatic solar washbasin with contactless control is designed with a sensor. The control electronics are activated for water to flow by putting the hand in the basin under the sensor zone.
One intriguing thing about his innovation is that the tap discharge soap before the water. It is also programmed with time for 25 seconds for handwashing before the water flows again. This enables effective handwashing.
Whiles the user is washing his or her hand, an alarm system prompts the user that the system is still operating and goes off when the 25 seconds is up.
The recycled oil barrel is elegantly painted in the colours of the Ghana flag.
People are currently looking for the gentleman to support his innovation and we hope that he gets the necessary support.
