Talk show host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom-Otchere is being reprimanded by some Ghanaians for challenging and rebuking Dr Zanetor Rawlings for purportedly making false statements in respect to food distribution to the destitute during the lockdown.
On Thursday, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings petition the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to investigate the politicization of food distribution in a partisan manner during the lockdown. According to the MP for Klottey-Korle constituency, Ghana needs greater accountability and transparency in the distribution of food.
As quoted, “I call on the President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to institute credible investigations into the seeming politicization of food distribution in this time of crisis. My constituents and I stand ready to cooperate and to present unimpeachable evidence before such an investigative panel.”
“Let it get into your system Dr Rawlings, you come from a privileged home…behave properly, stop misbehaving,” Paul Adom-Otchere scolded the MP.
Some Ghanaians consider rebuking Dr Zanetor and advising her on the show to “stop misbehaving” unethical.
“You better withdraw your press statement concerning the `No Party Card No Food to lockdown beneficiaries, it is baseless” – Paul Adom Otchere to Zanetor Rawlings.
Some also read into the actions of the famous talk show host as an animosity against Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings which is channelled to her daughter Dr Zanetor Rawlings. A video shoes Ex-President Rawlings condemning Paul Adom-Otchere where he called him a small boy who talks a lot of nonsense.
Another group supporting Paul Adom-Otchere also believe Zanetor’s must support her allegation with evidence. Paul sees her allegations as baseless.
The Minority in Parliament has also chosen to focus their attention on the matter by petitioning the National Media Commission.
Also, many Ghanaians believe that some politicians are politicizing food distribution by solely selecting their constituencies, therefore, taking advantage of the poor during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some go to the extent of branding the foods as a subtle campaign for votes.
