President Nana Akufo-Addo today, Saturday, 7th March 2020 attended the 68th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Opoku Ware School.

The president expresses gratitude for being honored by the old student of the school, as he claims the new title “Katakyie Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”, with school number I2.

Opoku Ware School, also known as OWASS was established in 1952 and is an all-boys high school Kumasi. The school was named after Asante King Opoku Ware I. The patron saint of the school is Saint Thomas Aquinas and the school has the motto “Deus Lux Scientiae”, meaning “God is the Light of Knowledge”.

The school was built by the Catholics with the mission to give young boys a better future through education. The first batch of the students was 60 in number in 1952.

Some prominent alumni include: Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, former NDC Minister of State, Justice Stephen Alan Brobbey, retired jurist; former Chief Justice of the Gambia and justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Justice Stephen Alan Brobbey, retired jurist; former Chief Justice of the Gambia and justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, Former Finance Minister, and current MP for Old Tafo, Ernest Owusu-Poku former Inspector General of Police, Ghana, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, Traditional ruler of Agogo state, former politician, Paul Victor Obeng, Mechanical engineer, Politician and former chairman of KNUST council, amongst others.
