Wife of the President of Ghana, and First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo has highlighted her contributions to the country. The First Lady categorized various sectors in which she had made significant contributions.
The First Lady who recently commissioned a Health Centre in the Kwame Anum in the Ga East Municipality on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 listed her achievements under the health sector.
She said, “Restoring Hope project and the Rebecca Foundation Health Initiative screened a total of 3,119 persons in the Ashanti, Greater Accra and Upper West, out of which 205 surgeries were completed”.
“Under the Community Health Outreach Initiative, a new CHPS compound was equipped at Seduase in Looked Katamanso municipality in the Greater Accra region. Under the Rebecca Foundation Health Outreach Initiative, 2000 Ghanaians have been screened and some referred for medical intervention and New and fully equipped Maternity, Neo-natal Intensive care and Paediatric Intensive care units at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Bantama Constituency”.
She added, “Renovation and equipping of Abbam Krom Health Center at Adeiso in the Upper West Akim in the Eastern region, construction of a Paediatric Intensive Care Center at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the Ablekuma South Constituency, health items donated to health facilities in all the 16 regions and the construction of a new CHPS compound at Nyashegu in the Tamale Metropolis the Northern Region of the Republic of Ghana”.
Under the Community Health Outreach Initiative, donations of phototherapy machines were made to the Princess Marie Louis Children in the Odododiodio constituency and Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in the Cape Coast South Constituency plus about 109 women benefited from major life-changing surgeries under the Restoring Hope Project and the Rebecca Foundation Health Initiative.
Listing her achievements in the field of Education, the First Lady, noted that she had led the “construction of 4 libraries at Sefwi Debiso, Bia West constituency in the Western North region, Moree in the Central Region, Wenchi in the Bono region and Daffiama Busei Issah in the Upper West region”.
She added that she had promoted reading and learning in various schools across the country in a television show dubbed “Learning to Read Reading to Learn”.
She said she had also donated “shoes and books to various schools across the country”. She had also donated “computers and books to schools in Assign South”.
“Donations of items to SOS Ghana, Kyebi School for the deaf, Mother care Orphanage, Akropong School for the Blind, Mampong School for the Deaf, Dzorwulu Special School and Adjei Kojo School for the Deaf”, she listed as achievements in the educational sector.
Under the Terema project, the First Lady stated that she had empowered 130 women made up of fishmongers, traders and artisans from Western, Central, Western North and Greater Accra regions with various start up tools”.
“Empowering street hawkers with tools and grants to boost their business”. She added that her outfit donated “1000 bags of cement to the Ghana National Hairdressers and Beauticians Association”, she listed.
The Rebecca Akufo-Addo foundation was founded in 2017 by the First Lady to promote government’s efforts for women and children.
