Russia- Monday, July 13, 2020,/ https://africanpostonline.com/ Russian Medical University Research Center has announced the successful completion of the world’s first clinical trials of coronavirus vaccine on humans involving 38 volunteers.
The vaccine which the world has been yearning for was produced by Russia’s Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the clinical trials began on June 18. The first vaccine trial was done at the Burdenko Military Hospital and the other given to test patients at the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University with 20 volunteers.
The volunteers quarantined in the hospital for 28 days after the vaccine injection, and the results showed the patients developing immunity to the virus.
Elena Smolyarchuk, the chief researcher for the Russian Center for Clinical Research on Medications at Sechenov University disclosed the breakthrough news to TASS newswire on Sunday.
According to the Chief researcher, the human trials for the vaccine had been fully completed and found to be safe, and all those test patients will be discharged soon.
“The research has been completed and it proved that the vaccine is safe. The volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and July 20,” Smolyarchuk said.
The director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology, Vadim Tarasov, added that the first group of volunteers would be discharged on Wednesday and the second on 20th July.
The name of the vaccine, and when it will be available to the public is yet to be disclosed.
