Players of the women’s national U17 and U20 team, the Black Maidens and Black Princesses respectively, has been revealed to have contracted the Coronavirus after general tests were carried out on the squad of both teams.
The tests were carried out when the players gathered at the training camp in Cape Coast, opened last week to start preparations for the upcoming Continental Qualifiers. According to reports from the Local Media, the tests by the Medical Officers proved that seven players from the two teams had contracted the deadly virus, even though they had been given comprehensive training and education on how to prevent themselves from contracting the very contagious virus, just last week.
The report from the medical examination has been forwarded to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), who will make a decision on the next step to take in order to prevent the spread of the virus in the camp, based on the report given. They will employ the assistance of the Ghana Health Service to make the final judgement on whether to disperse the camp or keep the players there under surveillance.
This unravelling event will likely impose further delay on the resumption of football in the country as it could be taken as a sign that Ghana is not ready to hit the pitch like the rest of the world. But it has been decided that the players who have contracted the virus must be taken a hospital in Cape Coast to receive treatment in order to avoid any form of health complications.
Players and Officials of the team who have not tested positive for the virus will undergo new tests to ensure that they are truly free from the grasp of the virus. They will also be quarantined for the next 14 days to see if they develop any symptoms associated with the novel COVID-19.
